Cheeky Parrot Goes to the Dogs

We are freshening up Flipology for its second reprint later this year. A big crowd pleaser, this game has up to eight players lining up and flipping their cards to discover animals, apply their effects, and score the most points over three quick turns.

Forest animals are featured but we've also included some pets, all behaving characteristically: cats, who contribute points but otherwise sit back and observe; hermit crabs, who scavenge the discards looking for a big point bonus at the game's end; and eager dogs who help the player flip more cards to find other animals.

Flipology's three cats were modeled on winning entries in a Cat Contest we held for the first edition, so we thought it would be fun to replicate that contest for dog owners for this latest edition. (The new dogs will replace the two pictured.) We are also on the lookout for doggy models and cute names for the dogs to feature in Puppy Biz, a game we are developing and expect to publish in 2027.

How to Enter

To enter the contest, first please read the rest of this page!
Then email one or two photos of a dog you own to service@cheekyparrotgames.com

Each dog counts as one entry.
If you own more than one dog, you’re welcome to submit separate entries (emails) for each dog.

Photo requirements

You must upload one or two photos per dog: the dog as a puppy and as an adult would be ideal.
Photos should clearly show the dog’s face and overall appearance.
Photos must be your own (taken by you, or with permission from the photographer).
Photos can be taken on a phone or camera — professional photography is not required.

Additional requirements

For each entry, please also provide:

The dog’s name
The owner's name. If the owner is a child under age 18, please supply the parent or guardian's name.
Confirmation that you are the dog’s owner or are the parent or guardian of the owner, and have permission to submit the photos

Please make sure all information is accurate before submitting. Once the contest closes, entries cannot be changed. In entering the contest, you are agreeing to your dog’s photos and name being used for judging and, if selected, for the dog's likeness and/or name to be included in Flipology and/or Puppy Biz and related promotional material. There are no cash prizes.
Entries must be emailed in by 11:59 pm on Friday 13 March.

Judging

All entries will be reviewed by our judging panel after the submission deadline.

Judges will not see entrant names or contact details
Photos and dog names only will be passed along to the judges separately and anonymously
Each entry will be judged solely on the merits of the dog by the photos provided

Scoring

Judges will use a points-based scoring system to evaluate entries
The exact scoring criteria will be finalised after the submission deadline but will be applied consistently across all entries

Winners

An artistic likeness of the top two scoring dogs will appear as the featured dogs in Flipology and their owners will receive a complimentary copy of the published game.
Additional dogs and any of the submitted dog's names may also be selected for inclusion in Puppy Biz.

We’ll also announce the results publicly via our newsletter and social media.

Our Judges

Laura Richardson

Laura is our dog expert, though she has a passion for all creatures great and small. Laura holds a Certificate in Animal Management specialising in Canine Behavior and Training and studied at a dog grooming school. She has worked as a dog groomer and also as a dog handler and puppy preschool trainer at a doggy day care. These days she works as a sales assistant and puppy preschool trainer at a pet store.

Tim Kings-Lynne

Cheeky Parrot has been working with Tim since we discovered his self-published game, modified it, Kickstarted it, and turned it into our best seller, Hoard. Tim has done all the artwork for Flipology so naturally he'll bring his expert artistic eyes to the task of identifying which canine contestants will transform best onto playing cards.

Rachel Reilly

Flipology designer Rachel is a queer trans woman, game designer, and civil servant from Albany, New York who has spent years fiddling with game concepts and designs. She took her time growing Flipology from a simple concept to a quick game packed with a ton of fun. When she's not playing and designing games, Rachel is usually cooking a hearty meal, traveling, or advocating to make her community a better place.

DeMi Ernst

We will soon be releasing FARMily Feud, the first published game by this promising new designer. DeMi and Cheeky Parrot also have a dog-themed game, Puppy Biz, under development, so our judges will also be scouting for models for the dogs that will appear there.
